Lutheran Summer Music (LSM) is the nation’s premier faith-based music academy for high school students. In addition to advanced musical instruction and numerous performance opportunities, LSM students form an intentional community, living together for four weeks on a Lutheran college campus.

Since 1981, this unique and immersive program has guided the lives of young musicians, who credit LSM as the starting place for their future careers and vocations.

I’m honored to serve as a Guest Artist this year, collaborating with LSM clergy and faculty to lead music for daily liturgies and work with students.

I'll serve as interim/transitional musician at Park Avenue Christian Church from early February until the summer, directing the choir and organizing a team of musicians to lead a multilingual, intersectional, and theologically progressive worshipping community in New York City.

The work includes:
- bringing more consistent thematic unity and focus to worship, especially in expressions of sung prayer and praise;
- continued integration of music from varied musical traditions and styles, including African-American, African, Latinx, and other global sources;
- training and mentoring music leaders in practices that engage and strengthen congregational participation;
- continued modeling of healthy, clear communication patterns between music staff and church staff, including planning processes and procedures that help alleviate anxiety and last-minute changes.
