Dear Singers at Valley Presbyterian and North Decatur Presbyterian,
I would like very much to include your voices in a virtual choir for the final Sunday of our Advent hymn study. Here’s how you can participate:
Step 1: Learn your individual part. Here’s the sheet music for you to download, if you need it. This video is a quick walk through all four (SATB) and the style of the piece.
Step 2: Rehearse with this video, which incorporates the Gospel song into a setting of the Magnificat. During the spoken sections, just hang tight. As you’ll see, I will call out the cues, repetitions, and other details.
Step 3: Once you’re comfortable, you will need two devices to record.
One device to record yourself singing along (phone, laptop, iPad)
A second device to listen to the master track while you record yourself singing along. You should use headphones/earbuds. This ensures the original master track recording won’t be picked up on your recording. Another option is to make sure the video is playing as low as possible and is still audible for you to sing along with. Have fun and work to communicate the essence of the song through your voice and face. Remember, you’ll be recorded as part of an ensemble, not a featured soloist.
Step 4: Once you have a recording you can email it, Dropbox, Google drive share, WeTransfer or send it to me in some digital capacity. My email is paul@paulvasile.com. Let me know if you have any problems and I’ll do my best to help.
Please send your recording by the end of the day on Sunday, December 13! Because time on this project is limited, we won't be able to include videos submitted after.
A few tips:
Make sure you position your device for the best sound possible. This means not standing too close or having the device in your hand. A stable video is a happy video!
Make sure you’re in a quiet(er) space to eliminate background noise.
Try to be as well lit as possible.
Finally, these videos are not meant to be perfect and we're not looking for Grammy nominations. They are meant to keep us connected to God and each other while we are physically apart.
I look forward to getting to know you through your voices, friends. Send your videos and thanks for participating, as you're able. The more the merrier.
